Adult Day Health Start Up GrantPHG was awarded $40,000 from the Yakima Valley Community Foundation (YVCF) for the start up of the Adult Day Health program for people with disabilities in Yakima. The group, whose mission is to improve the cultural, economic, social, health and educational quality of life for residents of Yakima County, gave away $325,000 in 16 grants ranging from $2,500 to $40,000 to local nonprofit organizations at an awards luncheon in November, 2007. The Adult Day Health Grant was one of the largest amounts awarded; the only other organization to receive $40,000 was Heritage University. Adult Day Health is a supervised daytime program providing skilled nursing and rehabilitative therapy services in addition to personal care services provided in adult day care. The program will provide these services to people with disabilities in support of other agency programs in order that they may be more fully integrated into the community and have an increased quality of life. The program will serve between 30 and 50 people on a daily basis with convenient access on the Yakima campus. The program is expected to begin serving participants later this year. Tom Gaulke was responsible for all the research, meeting with the YVCF staff and Board members, and completing the application for the grant process. Gay Lindemuth-Will was recently hired as the Director for the Adult Day Health Program.
