Lyssa

Lyssa began coming to Provident Horizon Group (PHG) through the Wapato School District Transition Program as a high school student. She started off in the Prevocational Program to receive initial training and to develop a career plan. It was not long before Lyssa was ready to look for a job. She was approached by PHG staff with an opportunity to apply for a therapy aide position at Children’s Village.

Lyssa received assistance from PHG’s UpSkills program and staff to prepare for the interview and got the job. She worked for several months as a therapy aide there before being given a chance to transfer to a similar position at the 16th Avenue Station. Her new position allows her to work with adults, and her job duties and training mirrors the other aides at the facility. She thinks the best part of her job is “getting to work every day” and the worst part is that that work is “picky, and very detailed.”

Lyssa says that the interview training provided at PHG was “good help”. The job coaching was also good. Coaches are “ornery, but help me learn new things. (They) can be your best friend or your worst nightmare.” Overall, Lyssa thinks that PHG is “Helpful. They help me get ready for work and help me learn how important work is and prepare me for other jobs.”

Darin Presley

Darin has been working for Bob Hall Chevrolet since March 2005, a job he acquired on his own. His duties include janitorial, car detailing, and aligning new and used cars in the parking lot. He is an all around “gopher,” and can be counted on by his employer to go wherever they need him to go in the Bob Hall complex. Managerial staff have been very complimentary on Darin’s attitude and work ethic. Darin utilized the Provident Horizon Group to assist him in acquiring the skills necessary to obtain community employment. Darin took classes where he learned how to obtain his drivers permit, which led to him receiving his driver's license. He also learned how to identify and apply for job openings along with how to interview for jobs. Now Darin is very successful and appreciative of the support that he has received from the Provident Horizon Group. “Provident Horizon Group has been very supportive on and off my job and has been a big reason I am successful today”.

Octavio Negrete

Octavio entered services with the Provident Horizon Group in March 2004 through a Division of Vocational Rehabilitation assessment. Following a community based assessment, Bi-Rite Lumber of Sunnyside hired Octavio and he has been employed there ever since. After his placement Octavio stated “Provident Horizon Group helped me to get my job and to learn all of the job duties. The job readiness classes are really good, too”.
